Dwarves are the humble yet stubborn, stocky, and rocky folk of the mountains. Historically they have dwelled deep within the craggy surfaces of mountains, hills, and caves. Their natural ability to see in dark environments makes them especially equipped to do so.
Dwarves were among the first species to learn how to refine metals and, more importantly, inscribe them with magic. Long before the Empire, dwarves were considerably stronger because of their ritualistic practice of inscribing magic into their tools, armor, and weapons. Making them both prominent mages and blacksmiths.
Over time though, the practice became more widespread, and while dwarves remained the sole founder of the teaching, they eventually lost their traditions and retreated back into the mountains.
Dwarves now typically stayed inside of tall mountain towns, villages, and tribes. They are very family-oriented, believing in the titular saying 'blood is thicker than water', despite that saying....not being complete. Regardless, most families have strong traditions that are meant to be carried forward into future generations.
A lot of dwarf families tend to dislike other races using magic items, such as armor and weapons inscribed with spells. Many old dwarven artifacts have been lost to time and thieves have taken them from dwarven tombs deep within the mountains. History is very important to the dwarves, thus they tend to want to keep it.
