Fae age at such a slow rate within the Fae plane that they almost seem immortal. Only when they leave does that magic fade and they begin to age. If a fae stayed in the mortal plane, they would live for around 800-900 years.
The Fae is mainly an umbrella term that encompasses the denizens of the Fae realm from the past and present. They vary greatly in appearance and always have an otherworldly presence about them. Common races that fall within the Fae umbrella are Eladrin, Fairies, Satyrs, Dryads, and Harpies. Though there can be infinite variation between characteristics. Some traits that Fae can exhibit include but are not limited to:
Long, pointed ears and slender bodies.
Heights that range from 3ft-7ft.
Animalistic features like antlers or animal horns, cloven hooves, insect or bird wings, a tail, etc.
A slight glimmer to the skin.
Unusual or ethereal skin, hair, and eye colors.
Natural plant-like branches, vines, leaves, or flowers that grow on the skin or in the hair.
Note: Certain characteristics like wings or animal features provide no additional mechanical benefit.
You have the same movement as other races, and it's purely for flavor.
The Fae have existed since the creation of the planes, living primarily within the Fae realm among the 6 courts that divide the plane. They thrive in environments rich in magic and nature, as the Fae realm is practically dripping with it. For as long as the Fae realm has existed, there have only ever been 4 known portals to tie together the Fae and Mortal planes. One of the portals exist within the Empire, that being of the Spring Court. It's currently overseen by the Order of Oak, an organization of fey and mortals that protect the portal and nature itself. They serve the Spring Fae Queen and worship the God of Nature.
Fae often get a bad reputation due to their stark differences with mortals. Often being known as boisterous, tricksters, trouble-makers, etc. While this isn't the case for every Fae, most mortals still believe this. However, the Fae are incredibly diverse, from small fairies with bright and glimmering wings to towering dryads with swirling branches and vines. There are some creatures known for more nefarious needs, but those you're most likely to meet are the nicer type. The Order of Oak does its best to keep those who would bring harm to mortals from entering through the portal.
Because the Fae are so diverse, their "culture" is this way as well. Some Fae settlements live wildly differently than others, as it all is dependent on a power hierarchy. The stronger the Fae, the better they live. Of course, the higher powers of the Fae are the Archfey, incredibly powerful beings that embody each court. You can learn more about them in The Pantheon.
